Aadhar card address change is required when a person decides to relocate permanently. Contrary to popular belief, Aadhar card update is a seamless process which can be done both online and offline. It can also be done through a mobile application designed for Aadhar card update related services.

The Aadhar cards are issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI. Whether it is the assignment of a new number or an Aadhar card update, the UIDAI is the supreme controlling authority of the entire Aadhar ecosystem.

UIDAI is a statutory authority of India established under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (“Aadhaar Act 2016”). 

What is Aadhar card?

Aadhar is a 12-digit unique number issued to every Indian citizen by the Government of India identification purposes. The Aadhar card stores the name, permanent address, picture, gender, fingerprints, Iris information and age of the enrolled person in a biometric format.

If a person wants an aadhar card update, he/she can do so conveniently. Most of the time, a permanent change of location leads to a requirement for an Aadhar card update.

The Aadhar card update and address change is a seamless online process and can be done by the user himself. Follow the mentioned steps for Aadhar Card update after house shifting.

Step 1: Go to the official website of the UIDAI, i.e. https://uidai.gov.in/.

Step 2: On the homepage of the UIDAI website, click on the ‘My Aadhar’ option.

Step 3: Next, under the ‘Update Your Aadhar’ section, click on the ‘Update Demographics Data and Check Status’.

Step 4: As soon as you click on the ‘Update Demographics Data and Check Status’ tab, you will be redirected to another web page.

Step 5: On this page, you will have to log in using your Aadhar number and a One Time Password (OTP). An OTP will be sent to the linked/registered mobile number. Key in the received OTP, Captcha code, and you will be logged into the Aadhar system.

Once you are logged into the UIDAI system, another window will appear on the screen. 

Step 5: Click on the ‘Update Aadhar Online’ option and you will be redirected to the another new window.

Step 6: If you have chosen to go for an Aadhar card update and change in permanent address, Choose an address from the option on the redirected page and click on the ‘Proceed to Update Aadhar’. Then another webpage will be displayed.

Step 7: On this webpage, the present address of the person (As displayed in the Aadhar card) will be displayed. Here, the option of Aadhar card update and entering the new address will appear. You need to to enter the new home address, building number, Pin code and the city. 

Step 8: For Aadhar card update or Aadhar card Address change, you will have to upload a supporting document which verifies the new address clearly. The authorities verify the address once the request is submitted.

Step 9: Once you have entered the updated Aadhar number, click on the ‘Next’ button and proceed with the payment. The user will be charged a total of Rs 50. 

Step 10: Once the payment is made for Aadhar card address change is verified, the internal team will verify the home address change request.

The application for Aadhar Card Address Change will be processed within 90 days. The Aadhar card update is necessary as a key document like Aadhar must not have an outdated permanent address.
